A NEW PHASE

I walked this summer in the dark along the beach until I could see nothing but the moon and the sea.

I never feel insignificant at the ocean; I feel bold, empowered.

This summer, my position at Edible Jersey became a casualty of the coronavirus.

I will be moving on.

In reporting the story of chef Juan Placencia (page 28), I have been inspired. Placencia, like so many others in this industry, like so many other courageous immigrants, is steering toward another future, one that he envisions as more fair, equitable, and sustainable.

I too have bold plans. I am working on several book projects and hope to host a weeklong immersive cooking and cultural experience in Italy next year.

Summer becomes fall but darkness becomes light, and 2020 will become 2021.

Wishing the best for you.

Cheers,
Teresa Politano, Editor

PUBLISHER’S NOTE: Teresa Politano has served as Edible Jersey’s editor since our High Summer 2017 issue. All of us at Edible Jersey will certainly miss her thoughtful voice and informed perspective. We wish her all good things and, of course, an always-delicious future.
