Sweetwater Marina and Riverdeck, nestled in the Pine Barrens, is getting ready for its second season under new owners Mike and Kimmie Iles, who transformed the spot from a tiny, unremarkable snack bar to the fully renovated dining destination it is today when they took over in 2015. Whether you’re arriving by car, motorcycle or fishing boat, this waterfront spot on the Mullica River is the perfect place to watch the sunset, listen to a band and enjoy a bite to eat from newly hired Chef Robert Braddock’s burger-meets barbecue menu.

Braddock’s burger menu will boast 11 options, including a Greek Isles burger with lamb, tzatziki and feta as well as a Cuban burger with pork, Berkshire ham, Jarlsberg cheese and spicy brown mustard. His barbecue menu will include staples like pulled pork, ribs and coleslaw.

“I’ll have a smoker set up, so I can smoke all of my meats fresh,” Braddock says. “Outdoors, live band, the river—it’s the perfect place for barbecue.”

One item Braddock can’t wait to serve up is his macaroni-and-cheese waffle topped with pulled pork. The macaroni and cheese get crispy on the outside while remaining gooey and cheesy in the center. Of course, the menu will offer a few seafood options as well.

“In South Jersey, we have to do some seafood. I think it’s a law,” Braddock jokes. He hinted at including a dish of scallops poached in sake.

This outdoor restaurant promotes a laid-back vibe where guests can enjoy dinner with friends and family or grab a drink and dance to the music. Opening for the 2017 season on May 18, this riverfront spot is destined to be a South Jersey summertime staple.
