A Fresh New Look
In 1984, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture decided state residents should have clear access to locally grown New Jersey produce. Jersey Fresh was established, and its logo helped consumers differentiate between produce imported into the state and produce grown within state lines. Nearly 25 years later, Jersey Fresh continues to be at the forefront of New Jersey agriculture with a brand new, redesigned website, FindJerseyFresh.com, to help consumers get the most of what the Garden State has to offer.
“This website is an easy-to-use tool for our Jersey Fresh customers,” say NJDA Secretary Douglas Fisher. “It allows shoppers to find out how close they are to farm markets that sell Jersey Fresh products.”
A location toolbar allows consumers to find near- by fruits and vegetables. The website also keeps consumers up to date on seasonality, and offers tips on choosing and storing produce, as well as nutritional information.
“We’ve observed that Jersey Fresh has evolved into a bit of a lifestyle brand,” says Tom Beaver, the NJDA’s director of marketing and development. “People were looking for opportunities to get to a new farm, a new restaurant, or identify a CSA.”
FindJerseyFresh.com lets people search for restaurants that incorporate locally grown produce into their menus. Wineries, breweries and distilleries can be searched as well. Information about each is included, along with business hours and products offered.
The bigger website platform also allows Jersey Fresh to share recipes, videos and stories about chefs and farmers.
“While making the shopping experience easier for our longtime Jersey Fresh customers, we also believe it will help attract new consumers with its user-friendly features,” Fisher says.
