A Summer to Savor: What to do, see and eat in New Jersey this Summer
New Jersey is one of the best places to celebrate summer. This season, step out and enjoy everything the state has to offer with outdoor restaurants, seasonal cocktails, and can’t-miss festivals. Here, a few recommendations.
✅ A SCOOP OF JERSEY-CENTRIC ICE CREAM
It’s the unofficial state food of New Jersey, but no matter what you call it, some locals are certain it belongs not only on breakfast sandwiches but also in ice cream. Taylor Pork Roll Ice Cream perfectly pairs the salty, savory treat with sweet ice cream to build an opposites-attract flavor profile you never knew you needed. Crafted and available at Windy Brow Farms; also available at The WooHoo.

✅ VIBES IN THE VINES
The newest arrival to NJ’s expanding wine scene, Saddlehill, opened in April with a full tasting room and about a dozen different varietals available. Owners Amy and Bill Green planted their first vines in 2021 on land gifted to its original owner by none other than George Washington. Now, it’s the perfect setting for a summer sip, so try the Rosado (a dry rosé) or Starflower (a semi-sweet white blend).

✅ STRAWBERRY DAYS
New Jersey has a short but sweet strawberry season, so take advantage of opportunities to pick your own, enjoy strawberry-inspired treats, and participate in family-friendly activities. At the annual Von Thun Farms’ Strawberry Festival, you’ll find hayrides, farm animals, face painting, and more, along with a bounty of the beloved berries. The festival takes place at both farm locations during the first two weekends in June.

✅ AHHH, THOSE OCEANFRONT VIEWS
The former Harbor View marina and restaurant has just changed hands after 30 years. Port Cocktails & Cuisine will take its place, offering reimagined drinks and elevated dishes on the Cape May waterfront. It’s the newest business venture for owners Ross Hammer and Laura Cavallo, who also own Taco Caballito Tequileria in downtown Cape May. Visit the website for more news on its summer opening date.

✅ CATCH A CAPE MAY COCKTAIL
Nothing says summer quite like a Cape May cocktail, and while Nauti Spirits Distillery might not have the ocean views, The Shark Tooth cocktail will certainly take your mind to breezy beaches. This distillery’s bartenders take their time with every drink, using their very own vodka, gin, or bourbon. The Shark Tooth blends vodka with lime and orange-oleo saccharum (a sweet citrus syrup), plus an optional Himalayan salt rim.
