New Jersey’s Two River Mushroom Broth
New Jersey’s Two River Mushroom Broth was recently named a 2023 sofi™ Gold Product of the Year award winner in the annual competition hosted by the Specialty Food Association. The awards, announced in June at the association’s Fancy Food Show in NYC, are considered a top honor in the $175 billion specialty food industry. Nearly 2,000 domestic and international products were entered in 53 food and beverage product award categories. Two River Mushroom won in the Soup category.
The winning broth is made with organic lion’s mane and shiitake mushrooms and other simple ingredients. With a savory, umami flavor, it works well as a sipping drink, a substitution for stock, or as a soup base.
“As entrepreneurs, we want to create the best possible product for our customers, and this award is the ultimate stamp of approval and a testament to our dedication,” says K.C. Sullivan, who founded Two River Mushroom in 2014 and worked on the broth in collaboration with restaurateur Marilyn Schlossbach and Rutgers Food Innovation Lab. Located on the preserved Mighty Dare Farm in Millstone, Two River Mushroom also sells high-quality USDA-grade organic mushrooms to restaurants, grocers, CSAs and at farmers’ markets throughout Central New Jersey.
Other NJ natives in the 2023 winners’ circle included Mighty Quinn’s Barbeque in Passaic (Gold/Barbecue Sauce category), Colonia-based Arya International whose Methi Roti was named Best New Product/Breads, and Seraphim Social Beverage of Spring Lake whose CACAO Calm & Clear Non-Alcoholic was named Best New Product in the Alcoholic Beverages/Cocktail Mixers category.
