After a long wait, Federal Twist Vineyard officially opened its new tasting room in Stockton this May. Nestled between the steep rolling hills of Hunterdon County and the Delaware River, it’s already shaping up to be a popular destination.
Federal Twist Vineyard is the dream of Paul and Hattie Dorko, who purchased the land in 1980. They renovated the old farmhouse, raised their five children, and eventually established the vineyard in 2012, taking advantage of the sandy river soil and choosing varietals to withstand New Jersey weather: early frost, humid summers, and strong winds that blow through the valley.
Each of Paul and Hattie’s children returned home to help the family business, usually working part-time along with their own careers and home lives. The many hands made it possible for the family to build the new tasting room, which allows the winery to open more days and longer hours. In this sophisticated yet welcoming space, visitors can enjoy Federal Twist’s wines as well as experiences such as seasonal floral arranging, sushi making, and a pitmaster’s table. The private barrel room seats up to 36 guests and is available for receptions, private lunches, multi-course dinners, corporate events, and meetings. Visit the vineyard’s website for the calendar and full list of offerings.
