Covered Wagon Tours: Beer for Your Bulls & Wine for Your Horses

Auburn Road Vineyards, Cowtown Rodeo, Bullhide Brewery, and Cowtown Cowboy Outfitters team up to present Covered Wagon Tours. Experience the vineyards and horse pastures of South Jersey!

We are back! After a hugely successful launch last fall, our Covered Wagon Tours are saddling up again, this time with the new Bullhide Brewery as part of the trail!

Your Covered Wagon Tour will start at The Enoteca, Auburn Road Vineyards’ European-style wine bar and outdoor café nestled in—and amongst—the grapevines. As you take your seat on the wagon and they pour you a glass of wine, your guide will tell you that everything they do here is art—from their gourmet wood-fired pizza and imported gelato to live original music by global artists; from vibrant paintings splashing highlights of color to wines worthy of sharing the table with the best wines in the world.

And they’ll remind you that one of the things that makes Auburn Road just a little bit different is that it sits right in the heart of Cowtown Country. Cowtown Rodeo is the longest-running weekly rodeo in the entire U.S.A. and the chief purveyors of the slice of Americana that is our little corner of the Garden State. Generations ago, ancestors of these daring horsemen drove the cattle that saved Washington’s army at Valley Forge. They were cowboys before there were cowboys.

After a leisurely roll through the vineyards with a sip of wine or two, we’ll approach the vast pastures that cover the hills surrounding Cowtown. In bygone days the vineyards themselves were home to scores of horses, and the barn that is now Auburn Road’s Enoteca was once a stable. Horses gallop by while the cattle lazily graze.

You’ll dismount for a stop at our halfway point to visit Cowtown Cowboy Outfitters. Not just a clothing store, the Outfitters are trendsetters, style makers, and lifestyle enthusiasts. Whether you are a rodeo cowboy, or love to root them on a Saturday night, or just want to sashay down the streets of New York City with a little more swagger and attitude, this is your place. Browse the boots, tie on a silk scarf, and maybe pick yourself up a custom cowboy hat. Then, right next door, relax at the brand-new Bullhide Brewery. Taste from a great selection of local microbrew beer brewed onsite and settle into their laid-back vibe. Then it’s back on the wagon for the return trip to Auburn Road in time for a relaxing glass of wine and some wood-fired pizza.

I have a theory: All other things being equal, every winery, brewery, and boutique in the world would want to be situated right where we are. Why? Because while being a winemaker, a brewmaster, or a fashionista may be sexy, there is nothing cooler than being a cowboy…
