Around the world, cultures thrive in the kitchen

The holiday season is often about family, traditions, and the flavors of time-honored delicacies. Dinner tables may be filled with special dishes made from the recipes of beloved relatives, along with the shared memories of those people that somehow make the food even tastier. Much of New Jersey’s character comes from its blend of different cultural backgrounds; it’s one of the most diverse states in the nation. Around the Garden State, several cooking instructors offer year-round classes based on their own family heritage. Jolynn DeLoach, Maricel Gentile, and Rachana Rimal are just a few cooks passing down their ancestors’ treasured Italian, Filipino, and Nepalese recipes and stories through cooking.
