On June 2nd  enjoy a fun family day on Fairview Farm to honor our friend and conservation leader, the late Elizabeth (Betty) Merck.

A $20 per car load entrace fee will enable you to attend all of the following:

8-9 am: Bird Walk for Adults and Bird Walk for Kids

Enjoy a casual walk on some of Fairview Farm’s 5 miles of trails looking and listening for spring migrants and residents!  Alan Rennie will lead a group of adults (ages teen and up) while Jim Fenton will lead younger birders to look for some feathered friends! Please bring binoculars, there will be limited smaller pairs available for children. Includes a light breakfast.

9-10 am: Streamside Meditation and Nature Journals

Dedicate an hour of stillness to yourself with Lauren Theis, certified yoga and forest meditation instructor.  Wear comfortable clothes for some gentle stretching exercises and bring a blanket or towel to sit on for a few guided meditation “invitations.” This meditation is suitable for adults and children preteen and up.  During this program, Joanne Endahl will be leading a nature journaling program for children ages 11 and under, where participants will create their own nature journal and be guided through a number of activities to get their journals started!

10-11 am: Bird and Butterfly Garden Tour for Adults and Make a Seed Bomb for Kids

Daina Gulbis, local Master Gardener and RHA educator, will introduce adults and teens to the specimens found in our Bird and Butterfly garden, all of which are caterpillar hosts, nectar or seed sources to native birds and butterflies!  Learn how you can invite native pollinators and birds into your yard by adding some beautiful plants to your home landscape.  Meanwhile, Erica Rosetti will lead a native wildflower “seed bomb” making workshop for children!

Ongoing throughout day (9-11) – Pond/Stream Exploration and Kayaking in Pond.

Stop at the pond anytime throughout the day to meet Debbie Newcomb, one of RHA’s fabulous educators! Debbie will be showcasing some aquatic insects and other critters found in our local waterways, and will give learners of all ages the opportunity to “get your feet wet” searching for these fascinating creatures!  Tracy Gordon will be helping folks in and out of our fleet of one-person kayaks in the pond for an easy paddle for ages 10 and up!
